What is CBD anyway?

CBD (Short for cannabidiol) is one of 113 compounds called cannabinoids that are specific to the hemp plant. CBD is extracted from the hemp plant, however it doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects at all – meaning you can’t get “high” from it.

What’s the hype about?

While it can’t make you high, CBD is scientifically proven to promote feelings of wellness and balance in all mammals. It does this through interacting with a system that we are all born with: the endocannabinoid system (also known as ECS for short!). The ECS is made up of activators and receptors (CB1 and CB2) that regulate physiological processes such as stress, mood, inflammation, and pain [1].

CB1 & CB2 receptors are found within the primary nervous system. [2]

  CB1 receptors

  • Located around the spinal cord and brain
  • Assist with moods and appetite regulation

  CB2 receptors

  • Located in the immune and nervous systems
  • Involved with processing CBD
  • Activated when your dog ingests CBD
  • Promotes calmness and balance
  • Encourage physical mobility

Why would I give it to my dog?

Like humans, dogs have an endocannabinoid system that helps to maintain physical and mental wellness. In fact, scientists have discovered that dogs actually have more endocannabinoid receptors than humans. This means that they are more receptive to the effects of CBD. CBD binds to receptors in you dog’s ECS and regulates those that are out of balance. In a way, you could say your dog’s body is prewired to benefit from the effects of CBD. Using CBD, alongside the other beneficial compounds found in hemp, may aid in supporting better health for your fur baby.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my dog get "high" from CBD?

No, your dog will not get "high" from CBD. There are many words associated with CBD: full-spectrum hemp extract, cannabinoids, cannabidiol, terpenes… The terms sound like those associated with cannabis and its psychoactive molecule, THC. However, we derive our CBD from hemp, which was removed from the Controlled Substances Act by Congress in its 2018 Farm Bill and is more and more commonly used for its therapeutic benefits in people and now in pets. CBD is legally, openly sold throughout the US with 0.3 percent (or less) of THC. And since our CBD comes from the hemp plant, it doesn't produce any psychoactive effects – meaning your pet can't get "high" from it - even if they sneak and treat themselves to a bag of CBD snacks while you aren't watching. If your dog consumes a bunch of CBD treats, the best thing to do is observe them and call your veterinarian - they will likely be super chill, cuddle up and sleep a lot.

How are your CBD Infused Animal Chews dosed?

Each of our Okidoki™ CBD Infused Animal Chews is handcrafted and inspected. That means that we take special care to put just the right amount of CBD onto each of our animal chew products. Typically, a dog will consume all of the CBD on the chew in a single chewing session. However, if your dog is not an aggressive chewer, it may take two sessions to consume all of the CBD on a chew.

Which Okidoki™ product is best for my dog?

All dogs are different. As your dog's best friend, no one knows them like you do. You know when they are up or down emotionally, and you can see when they've over-exerted themself at the dog park. All of our Okidoki products target the trouble areas that most commonly affect dogs: separation anxiety, discomfort, and overall wellness. In addition, we add adaptogens to boost the already known benefits of CBD and add a functional element to our products so they can help your dog truly live its best life.

Where are Okidoki™ products made?

All Okidoki™ products are sourced and made in the US with manufacturing partners that maintain GMP standards. In addition, our CBD Infused Natural Animal Chews are all sustainably sourced in the US.

How often should I give my dog CBD?

CBD Tinctures and CBD soft chews should be given daily. CBD natural animal chews can be given once or twice a week, depending on what type of chewer your dog is. Our CBD Paw Buddy Balm can be used as much as you like.

How soon after giving CBD will I see a difference in my dog?

Because CBD works best over time, we recommend that you use it daily and watch your pet for positive changes. When giving the tincture, please note that all dogs are different. In most cases, it will take an hour to see results. Please always observe your pet and adjust as needed.

My dog is picky, how should I give them the CBD drops?

It's not uncommon for dogs to turn their noses to a tincture, but it's a fantastic way to give CBD. It's perfectly fine to add the CBD drops to your dog's favorite treat to get them to ingest it. Another option is to offer a favorite treat and when they open their mouth, squirt the drop dosage into their mouth. Sneaky!

Where can I buy your products?

At the moment our products are only available online. If you know of a retailer that should be carrying Okidoki™ products, we'd love to know - please tell us about them.
